Original Pre-production Blueprint/Color Spec sheet: Jawas (Professional Copy)

Pictured is a professional copy of the original concept artwork for the Jawas. Copied from the original blueprint/color spec sheet and measuring 11" by 17", this outlines the colors used on the Jawas as they were taken from colored print and eventually produced. The most fascinating part of this sheet is the title "Jawas", which later on became "Jawa". The Jawa is the shortest figure in the Star Wars line, measuring only 2 1/4" tall. While the original blueprint would have been an awesome addition to my Jawa focus, this professional copy serves as an affordable alternative.

POTF2 Commtech Jawa First Shot (Flesh Arms)

Pictured is a POTF2 Commtech Jawa First Shot. The figure is unpainted and non-sonic welded, so it can be taken apart. It is molded in light blue, beige and brown plastic and is devoid of any copyright information. Though the figure is similar to my other Commtech First Shot, but the arms are molded in a beige/flesh color.

Here is a picture of the figure taken apart. First shots from the Commtech line are fairly hard to find and I am lucky to have acquired three different versions.

POTF2 Trilogo Jawa Two-Pack "Quality Control" Sample.

Pictured is a POTF2 Trilogo Jawa Two-Pack "Quality Control" Sample. For quality control purposes, it is common for toys to be routinely inspected during the production process.This particular item has a "signed sample" sheet attached to the back of the package. The sheet notes the Vender, Item name, product number, etc. Of note, the "Language Version" of choice is German with a comment "Existing EU .164 Product with change weapon to Kraton". Unfortunately, the original tape has dried off from the sign-off sheet, separating it from the card. A similar piece of masking tape has been used to reattach it to the card.

Pictured is the front of the card. Here you can see the five different languages detailing the glowing eyes and blaster pistols for the "evil jawas". This is a rather cool addition to my growing modern pre-production Jawa collection.

Unproduced Empires Strike Back Action Figure Carrying Case

Pictured is an “Unproduced” Empires Strikes Back Action Figure Carrying case. The case features the original Star Wars artwork with the ESB Logo and a cool looking Jawa in the background. The case features a unique “closing” design, where a hole had been die cut into a larger flap, where the carrying handle slides through to keep it shut. This differs from the normal snap that had affixed to the top of the production case.

I have enclosed more pictures of the case with the trays removed and the top and interior of the case. The interior plastic of the case is grey, matching the second Empire release featuring Yoda on the cover. This differs from the initial release of the case featuring Star Wars artwork that featured blue interior plastic. Stickers have also been affixed to the interior trays, detailing the names of thirteen “new” characters for the Empire Strikes Back movie. Oddly enough, R2D2 and C3PO are present with their original titles, rather than C3PO with removable legs or R2D2 with sensorscope. This case represents a nice way to add an unproduced version of a carrying case and maintains ones focus with a Jawa in the background artwork.

Gentle Giant 8" Jawas (MOC)

Pictured are both of the Jawas produced by Gentle Giant. These awesome figures pay homage to the Vintage Kenner line of figures. A collector will need plenty of shelf space, as these are huge. Each MOC measures 15" wide and 20" tall, making it hard to fit in even the biggest display shelves.

The Vinyl Cape had been an exclusive to the 2011 San Diego Comic Con and limited to only 1000 pieces worldwide. The weapon has the classic bump on one side and is fairly sturdy.

Here is a close-up picture of the Cloth cape version. While easier to find than the Vinyl Cape version, these sold out fairly quickly. The cape is a lot thinner than I expected and similar to later released versions from the Return of the Jedi line. Both of the Jawas are a nice addition to my ongoing Jawa focus.

POTF2 Legacy First Shot Jawa with Security Droid

Pictured is a Legacy Jawa First Shot with Security Droid. The figure is unpainted and does not contain copyright information on the bottom of the feet. The cloth cape is similar to the production version and is very smooth. The weapon is shot in brown plastic and differs from the production version (black).

The Security Droid is unpainted and is molded in black plastic. The base is similar to the production version, but lacks a time stamp.

Here you can see where the letters "HFE" are branded on top of the forehead. This is very common on Modern prototype figures.

Here is another picture of the same figure sealed in a clear baggie. I obtained two first shots and removed one from baggie, while electing to keep the second one sealed. Based on information from the seller, these were used as samples from the Vendor for final approval.

POTF2 Unpainted "Tall" Jawa Heads (partially on sprue)

Not the most exciting addition to my collection of Pre-Production Jawas, but these are pretty cool. Pictured are two unpainted "Tall" heads from the Jawa Two-Pack. One of the heads is still attached to the sprue, while the other fell off at one time.

Here is another picture of the sprue with some hand written remarks on one side. Unfortunately, the pen marks have faded and I am unable to read it. More than likely, it would describe the heads and they were probably used as a sample at one point. The addition of the sprue makes it even better, as it showcases another step in the production process, before the finished toy reaches the shelves.

POTF2 Tall and Short Unpainted Hardcopy Heads

Pictured are two pairs of the POTF2 Tall and Short unpainted hardcopy heads. Each head is cast in a blue resin material and have a bit of extra material on the edges of their face. These compliment my POTF2 "two-pack" run that I have managed to put together.

POTF2 Tall Hardcopy Jawa

Pictured is POTF2 Tall Hardcopy Jawa. The figure is hand painted and held together by metal pins. More than likely, the figure had been used as a Paint Master. The figure is slightly larger than the production version and lacks footholes on the bottom.

Here is picture of the figure "taken apart". The bottom torso can move up and down, so the figure has some mobility. Though hard to see, there is a "touch" of blue resin under the head. The figure had been "cast" in a blue resin material before being painted.

Here is a nice shot of the figure with two unpainted Hardcopy heads. They fit the figure very nicely and are a compliment to my "run" for this particular figure.

Action Collection Jawa Hardcopy (Incomplete)

Pictured is an Action Collection Jawa Hardcopy. Though incomplete, this is one super cool piece. The parts are pale yellowish in color with metal pins on the bottom torso where the legs would be placed. The arms were glued to the torso at one time, but are no longer held together.

Here is a picture of the arms, legs and torso as they are turned over. The parts are slightly larger than the production version as these were used to make the molds for the figure. This is the only known hardcopy Action Collection Jawa and I am very excited to add it to my modern pre-production Jawa collection.

Non-Sonic Welded Kenner Jawa

Pictured is a non-sonic welded Kenner Jawa.The figure is similar to a production figure, but for some unknown reason escaped the "bonding" process. The figure can be taken apart (below) and is pretty cool.

LA GUERRA DE LAS GALAXIAS Jawa Card

Pictured is a cool "LA GUERRA DE LAS GALAXIAS" Jawa Card.Similar to Topps cards, produced in the late-70's and 80's, these feature a quite familiar background of the Jawas carrying R2D2 to their "dreaded" Sandcrawler. Based on information from the seller, these were produced in Argentina and were supposed to be glued to various sticker books.

Here is a picture of the back of the card. Fortunately, this card escaped the gluing process and is in fairly good condition. I purchased this card at Celebration V. Thanks to my cool roomie, Trevor for this nice card.

Painted Heritage Jawas

Pictured are painted Heritage Jawas. Produced by the Heritage company in the mid-80's, these "bootlegs" can be found unpainted, black and brown. They could also be found attached to pendants for various necklaces. The painted versions are much tougher to find than unpainted. These were purchased at Celebration V, during the "infamous" room sales. Thank you to Joe Y. for these cool Jawas.

Sample Red and Black MADBROWNZ Patches

Pictured are "sample" Red and Black patches. These were handed out during the most recent Celebration event. The samples differ from the production version with a more vibrant Red, Black and Brown color on the patch. These are the only "samples" that exist and were used in the production of the Red and Black Patch.

POTF Ronto Jawa Bagged Sample with Sign-Off Sheet

Pictured is a bagged sample of the Ronto Jawa. It is complete with sign-off tag from the Factory. The sample includes two heads, two bottom-half torsos, two right arms and two left arms. Both bottom-half torsos contain copyright information (1997 LFL Kenner China). All of the sample pieces are unpainted.

The sign-off sheet is written in Mandarin and reads:

“Here is the Jawa unpainted prototype parts on tree (some of them were came off) - 2 head, 2 left hands, 2 right hands and 2 feet (Copyright markings - Kenner 1997). The plastic bag has been sealed with a sample card stapled to it".

Pictured is a Mock-up of the Holiday Edition Jawas. The figures are production Jawas, but the hands have been glued on. The base appears to be hand painted and differs from the production version, but contains copyright information (2004 LFL). The gold tones are more vibrant and the black has a more matte finish.

Pictured is a pair of Saga 8" Jawa First Shots. Both figures are molded in a lighter plastic than the production figures and are sonic welded, so they cannot be taken apart. They are devoid of any copyright information. They differ from the production figures, as the arms have been placed on the alternate figure. The bandoliers are included, but are broken on each end. More than likely these were used to test the design for each figure. Pre-production figures from the 12" line are much harder to find than 3 3/4" figures. These are the only Saga Jawa First Shots to have surfaced.

POTF2 Animated Clone Wars Jawa First Shots

Pictured is a nice pair of First Shot Jawas from the Animated Clone Wars line. The "Tall" Jawa is unpainted and molded in dark and light brown plastic. The weapon is molded in dark brown plastic and differs from the production version. The "Short" Jawa is unpainted and molded in white and beige plastic. Both figures are devoid of any copyright information.

Here is a profile picture of both figures. The letters "HFE" are etched in the side of their head. Animated Clone Wars related prototypes are fairly hard to find and these are the first Jawas to surface.

Pictured is a carded sample for the 30th Anniversary Collection Jawa. The Jawa and LIN Droid appear to be production figures and the bubble is heat sealed. The inner package is missing a insert, coin and differs slightly than the produced version. The letters "HFE" are branded on the Jawa's vest.

Here is a close-up of the Jawa, where the letters "HFE" can be seen more clearly. Though not pictured, the card back contains an earlier date stamp than the produced version.

1977 Topps Star Wars Jawa Sticker Color Key Set (#41)

Pictured is a Star Wars Jawa Sticker Color Key set from Topps. The sticker had been used to test different colors (yellow, cyan, magenta and black) for the production Topps sticker. There are four different layers to the sticker that have been laid on top of each other. The back of the sticker is blank.

Celebration IV and Celebration Europe Jawa Medallions

Pictured are the Celebration IV and Celebration Europe Exclusive Jawa Medallions. These beautiful Medallions were given to attendees, during various Collecting Panels. They are made of pewter and pay homage to the Vintage Line.

Here is a picture of the back of the Medallions. The name of each sponsor (Chris Nichols and Henrik Rasmussen) are highlighted as well. These were very popular during each Celebration Event.

In addition to Medallions, stickers and posters (not pictured) were created to publicize the giveaway during each Collecting Panel

Power of the Force 92 Back Jawa

Pictured is a Power of the Force 92 Back Jawa. I must say that Kenner saved the best for last. This is a dramatic change from the previous released card backs. The artwork is incredible. The character photo is nicely styled inside the area of the card. Of course, the collector coin is a nice addition as well. The real challenge for most Power of the Force collectors is finding a clear bubble. I do not remember seeing a Jawa with a clear bubble.

The Collector Coin offer is simple, but very nice. Though "Collect all 92" is noted, Ninety-Three figures were released. Yak Face is not listed or pictured on the back of the card. Sadly, this is the last domestic Vintage card back the Jawa had been released on. The Jawa is fairly common on Power of the Force card backs.

Star Wars 12 Back Jawa

Though a minor character to most, the Jawa, along with the Tusken Raider and Death Squad Commander were the last of the "first twelve" figures to be released. Initially released with a vinyl cape, this was changed to a more "authentic" cloth cape. The Jawa is also the shortest of the initial figures to be released, measuring 2 3/4" tall.

Here is a picture of the back of the card. Each character is identified by name, height and a brief description. The "scary" Jawa came with shiny eyes and a laser gun. The layout of the card back is very appealing, mainly due to the use of drawings to detail each character.

Unpainted Lili Ledy (Overstock) Jawa

Pictured in an unpainted Ledy Ledy Jawa. The pieces are basically overstock arms, legs and torso halves (back and front) that were produced in the Lili Ledy Factory, but never sonic welded and placed on a production cardback. The plastic is much lighter on the arms and legs, compared the front torso.

The figure is non-sonic welded, so it can be taken apart (pictured above). Included are two extra front torso halves (unpainted and painted) and an authentic Lili Ledy Jawa weapon. While not a true prototype, the figure serves as a part of the production process and is pretty darn cool.

Jawa Prototype Samples (Hand Painted Alternate Deco)

Before switching from a vinyl cape to a more realistic cloth version, an idea was introduced to simply paint the jawa figures with a darker color instead of using a cape for the figure. First a brown marker was used to paint a production jawa with a dark color to test the idea. When finished, two other production jawa figures were painted with liquatex, a water based acrylic based paint to give the figures a darker color. When suggested to Kenner as a way to save money, the idea was rejected

Though the idea had been rejected, the figures serve as an idea that never went forward. These figures are the ones produced for mock-up purposes and give a glimpse of the early days surrounding Star Wars and Kenner.

Hand Painted Jawa First Shot with Alternate Cape

First shots of the original twelve figures are probably the most challenging to find for any collector. Here is a very interesting prototype jawa figure. The most interesting aspect of this jawa is the cape. The material is very different than the production version and darker as well. The cape is also hand-cut. The figure is hand-painted, which really makes the details of the bandolier really standout. The figure has been glued together as opposed to sonic-welded. Like most first shots, the figure is devoid of any copyright or country of origin markings.

Here is a side picture of the figure. Here you can really see the brush marks around the hand. Unfortunately, the figure has been “entombed” in a plastic prison, which makes taking additional pictures tricky. Come on, who wants to see additional pictures of plastic bars anyway?

Here is a comparison shot with another jawa first shot. The hands are much thinner than the figure on the right and the feet a tad smaller as well. Here you can really see the difference between the two capes. Though already noted, the bandolier is fuller and more detailed.

Star Wars 8" Jawa Doll (MISB)

One figure that I begged my parents for while growing up.Unfortunately, this never landed under my Christmas tree. Kenner's 12" line had been pretty extensive, with characters like Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Han Solo. So why did I want a Jawa? Well, I just love the little guys.

The Jawa featured a blaster rifle, hooded cloak and ammunition belt. Probably not the best toy to play with, but a favorite of mine from the very beginning.

Power of the Force Jawa Cromalin

A common POTF proof card. The bottom corners are squared and the top rounded. The punch is different than the production version. Though slightly "easier" to find than Star Wars Proofs, these are a daunting challenge for any collector.

The Evolution of MADBROWNZ

From the start, I wanted a site different than others. While there are some outstanding websites on the internet that showcase some outstanding collections, I wanted something special.

Why the name "MADBROWNZ"? Well, the name is unique and it seems to describe the character perfectly. I have always imagined the Jawa as this crazy character, with a mean streak. Featured is original art by Bill Cable, that had been nice enough to put my imagination into art form.

I hope to update this site on a daily or weekly basis. Enjoy the site and let me know what you think.
